A short introduction to the ecology, taxonomy and nomenclature of the genus Agaricus

A short introduction to the ecology, taxonomy and nomenclature of the genus Agaricus

Genetics and breeding of Agaricus Proceedings of the First International Seminar on Mushroom Science, Mushroom Experimental Station, Horst, Netherlands, 14-17 May 1991: 21-24

A short introduction is given to the distribution and ecology of Agaricus. Worldwide there are around 300 to 400 species in the genus. Although early taxonomy lumped nearly all edible fungi with gills into Agaricus, later taxonomists defined new genera.
