African Year of Tourism: an initiative launched in a pessimistic climate
The African Year of Tourism was launched in Paris at the 16th meeting of the Salon Mondial Tourisme et Voyages (SMTV) in an atmosphere dominated by the Gulf crisis. The prospects for Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt are seen as dismal. Quite apart from the grave problems caused by the crisis in the Gulf, Africa, as a continent, does not play a sufficiently prominent role in global tourism.
