Aggressiveness of strains of Venturia inaequalis in relation to breeding scab-resistant apple varieties

Differential interactions in respect of virulence (V) and aggressiveness (A) were found between V. inaequalis isolates and apple varieties. Each isolate attacked a particular group of varieties and each strain, irrespective of its V, could show high A on one variety and low A on another. In a number of cases high V was associated with fairly high A, and weak V with fairly low A, but there was no close correlation between V and A.
