B-vitamins and immunity

B-vitamins and immunity

Voeding 51(12): 310-311

The importance of vitamin B status on immune function is described in healthy young male subjects and elderly women. The male subjects were given a normal diet deficient in 1 or more of the vitamins, thiamin, riboflavin and pyridoxine, for 11 weeks. Results showed that the buffer capacity of the immune cells was sufficient to prevent a decrease in immune capacity, but there was a marked decrease in blood levels of all the B vitamins.
