Barley yellow dwarf - a permanent problem in cereal growing in the German Federal Republic?

Barley yellow dwarf - a permanent problem in cereal growing in the German Federal Republic?

Nachrichtenblatt des Deutschen Pflanzenschutzdienstes 42(3): 33-39

A severe epidemic of barley yellow dwarf luteovirus (BYDV) infection occurred in 1989 in the GFR; this was ascribed to a long period of mild weather in autumn 1988, a mild winter, an early spring in Mar./Apr. 1989 and warm temp. throughout the summer, all of which promoted the development of large aphid populations and consequently a wide spread of the virus.
