Biliary concentration and flow rate of Fe, Cu and Mn as affected by enteral or parenteral Fe supply

Biliary concentration and flow rate of Fe, Cu and Mn as affected by enteral or parenteral Fe supply

Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition 65(2): 72-83

For 12 days, 6 German Landrace barrows, 45 kg, with bile duct cannulae, were given supplementary iron orally (450) or parenterally (18 mg/day). Biliary Fe excretion did not change in pigs given parenteral Fe, but was almost doubled in pigs given oral Fe. Biliary manganese excretion was reduced from 251 to 48 and from 261 to 94 micro g/day in pigs given oral and parenteral Fe, respectively. Biliary copper excretion was not affected by Fe supplementation.
