Biocontrol of Pythium damping-off of cucumber by Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf-5: mechanistic studies

Biocontrol of Pythium damping-off of cucumber by Pseudomonas fluorescens Pf-5: mechanistic studies

Bulletin SROP 14(8): 172-176

P. fluorescens str. Pf-5 protected cucumber from pre-emergence damping off caused by P. ultimum. Tn5 insertion mutants of Pf-5, defective in the production of a pyoverdine (pvd) or pyoluteorin (Plt), were obtained and characterized. Pvd- mutants were as effective as Pf-5 in suppression of P. damping off of cucumber. No role of pyoverdine production in the biological control activity of Pf-5 was demonstrated.
