Biodegradation of particleboard. II. Decay resistance of chemically modified particleboard

Particles of Leucaena leucocephala were modified with propylene oxide (PO), maleic anhydride/glycerol (MG) or acetic anhydride (acetyl) to give weight percentage gains of 15-17%. Single-layer particleboards were prepared from treated and untreated particles using urea formaldehyde (UF), phenol formaldehyde (PF) and isocyanate (IC) resins. The boards were exposed for up to 12 wk to Coriolus versicolor, Pycnoporus coccineus, Tyromyces palustris, Chaetomium globosum and Gliocladium virens.
