Bioeconomic models in fishing: procedures and limitations

Modelling techniques that have been employed since the late 1950s to assess relationships between biological and economic variables in the management of fisheries are based essentially on neoclassical economic theory. These models have contributed to better theoretical understanding of the operations of fisheries; their practical and empirical use is, however, quite limited.
