Calf-rearing during the colostrum-feeding period, in the open air

, : Calf-rearing during the colostrum-feeding period, in the open air. Molochnoe i Myasnoe Skotovodstvo ( 2): 15-17

Calves in the Dubnovskii region of the Ukraine usually receive their first colostrum directly from the cow, and subsequently are fed by hand in external rearing pens 250 cm long by 120 cm wide, usually receiving 3 feeds/day. This article describes the development of a feeding device to improve the efficiency of the calf-rearers; it consists of a rubber teat attached by a pipe to an individual drinking bowl.
