Callus formation from protoplasts of grapevines (Vitis spec.)

Protoplasts isolated from different organs of genotypes grown in vitro were studied for competence for cell division and regeneration. Protoplasts from petioles and leaves of Riesling, Kerner, Muller Thurgau, Orion and Vidal showed low rates of cell wall formation and in many cases first cell division failed. In contrast, protoplasts derived from stems and roots began dividing in the first week of culture.
