Callus induction and plant regeneration from internode tissues of bamboo (Dendrocalamus latiflorus cv. Machiku)

The in vitro establishment of callus cultures from internodal tissues of bamboo, D. latiflorus Machiku, and subsequent plant regeneration were investigated. Callus was induced on Murashige and Skoog's nutrient medium supplemented with 0.1 to 25 p.p.m. 2,4-D. Two types of callus were observed: loose and compact types. The compact-type callus was produced on media supplemented with at least 1 p.p.m. 2,4-D. Benzyladenine (BA) inhibited callus induction, particularly the compact type.
