Cane pests

This section of a report on sugarcane in Queensland begins with estimates of yield and monetary losses as a result of pests in 1989; losses from insect, nematode, bird and mammal pests (excluding rats) were estimated to be 194 600 tonnes of cane or 0.74% of the total crop. These estimates are followed by a summary of investigations on the monitoring, biology, identification and control of pests, especially cane grubs soldier flies Saccharicoccus sacchari, froghoppers rats and quarantine pests.
