Capillary haemoglobin as a predictor of response to oral iron by children with iron deficiency

, : Capillary haemoglobin as a predictor of response to oral iron by children with iron deficiency. Revista de Investigacion Clinica 43(1): 37-39

Prevalence of anaemia was estimated in 100 apparently healthy children 6 to 24 months old attending the preventive medicine service in a general hospital in the city of Tapachula, Mexico. Estimation of capillary haemoglobin (Hb) value showed 91 children with anaemia (Hb <= 11 g/100 ml). Of those 91, 68 were given iron 3 mg/kg body weight daily by mouth for 90 days. In 64 there was an average increase of 2.6 g/100 ml in Hb value.
