Carbohydrates in rubberwood (Hevea brasiliensis Muell.)

Fresh rubberwood contains 1.05-2.29% free sugars and 7.53-10.17% starch. Since rubberwood is used as a raw material in the production of wood-cement boards, the presence of high carbohydrates causes a retarding effect on the cement setting. The amount of total free sugars and starch decreased to 0.23% and 1.08% respectively after being stored outdoors for 20 wk. The reduction of free sugars and starch after storage was rapid up to 12 wk, after which it remained practically constant.
