The influence of 3 different milking methods on teat responses was compared. Using 7 early-lactating heifers, changes in teat length, teat diam., teat end thickness, and temp. of teat end and teat base after calf suckling, hand milking and machine milking were investigated. Changes in teat length were +or-1 mm for all milking methods. The teat diam. changed with calf suckling and hand milking by +or-0.2 mm whereas machine milking evoked an increase of 1.2-2.7 mm.
