Control of the banana slug

Control of the banana slug

Inligtingsbulletin Navorsingsinstituut vir Sitrus en Subtropiese Vrugte (219): 22-23

The gastropod Urocyclus flavescens rasps the peel of bananas in South Africa, causing brown corky scars. It feeds at night and during overcast rainy days. On clear days, it shelters under leaves or between the hands of banana bunches. The eggs hatch after the 1st summer rains. Weed control is a prerequisite for effective slug control.
