Current work on the control of Prostephanus truncatus in stored maize and dried cassava in Tanzania is described from the perspective of an extension officer of the UK's Voluntary Service Overseas. In 1989-90 a campaign in one district eliminated an infestation of the bostrichid with the use of locally formulated Actellic Super (pirimiphos-methyl (1.6%), permethrin (0.3%) and coconut shell dust (98.1%)). Similar campaigns are described as having resulted in only isolated reports of the pest.
