Coronavirus serology in healthy pedigree cats

Coronavirus serology in healthy pedigree cats

Veterinary Record 131(2): 35-36

Blood samples from 131 healthy cats (representing 4 different breeds) from different, multicat households were examined for coronavirus antibodies using an indirect homologous immunofluorescent assay. No cases of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) had been reported in the households within the 2 previous years. Positive coronavirus antibody titres were detected in 84% of the cats compared with 93% of 39 cats with histopathologically confirmed FIP.
