Demographic change and economic status of women in rural China

Demographic change and economic status of women in rural China

Dissertation Abstracts International A, Humanities and Social Sciences 52(6): 2281-2282

The present study examines the determinants of women's economic status in rural China under a low fertility regime. The study focuses on women's labour force participation, their decision-making power and their consumption of non-staple food and expenditure on clothes. An expanded Nash cooperative bargaining framework that includes social sources of power is used to guide the empirical analysis.
