Diallel analysis of protein content in the grain of spring durum wheat and the genetical characteristics of some varieties

The parents and F1 progeny from a 7 X 7 diallel set of crosses were evaluated for protein content. Genes with additive effects conditioned between 57.5 and 79.7% of the genetic variation in the trait. Favourable GCA effects were noted in Hordeiforme 1946, Wakooma and Leucurum 1973. Wakooma had the largest number of additive genes for the character, which was controlled by genes with additive and dominance effects (no epistatic effects being detected).
