Dietary supplementation with low-dose fish oils lowers fibrinogen levels: a randomized, double-blind controlled study

Dietary supplementation with low-dose fish oils lowers fibrinogen levels: a randomized, double-blind controlled study

Annals of Internal Medicine 111(9): 757-758

For 20 weeks 25 hyperlipoproteinaemic adults in 3 groups were given n-3 fatty acids (in fish oil) at 2.2 or 1.1 g daily or olive oil (control group). There were significant increases in plasma eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid and a marked reduction in fibrinogen values in both fish oil groups. After 20 weeks, mean reductions were 21.6 and 5.8%, respectively.
