Diets of young vegan and vegetarian children

Data were collected using the diet history method for 10 vegan and 10 ovolactovegetarian children, mean age 5.3+or-2.7 and 5.7+or-2.5 years, respectively, in Australia and used to give an average daily intake for each child. In ovolactovegetarians the ratio of protein, fat and carbohydrates to total energy was similar to that in the general population (15:36:49). Vegans ate less protein and fat and more carbohydrates (11:24:65).
