Difference in potential and mucus content of the stomach in rats deficient in vitamin A

Difference in potential and mucus content of the stomach in rats deficient in vitamin A

Bollettino Societa Italiana di Biologia Sperimentale 66(6): 543-550

In male Wistar rats given a diet deficient in vitamin A for 35 to 45 days transparietal gastric potential, estimated using agar-potassium chloride electrodes in vivo, decreased, compared with that in normal and pair-fed, vitamin A-supplemented rats. Mucus, estimated by binding in Alcian blue, decreased in the gastric mucosa and lumen. Mucus adherent on the gastric mucosa increased. Dry weight of the stomach increased.
