Difference in single leaf photosynthesis between old and new rice cultivars. III. Physiological basis of varietal difference in single-leaf photosynthesis viewed from nitrogen content and nitrogen-photosynthesis relationship

Difference in single leaf photosynthesis between old and new rice cultivars. III. Physiological basis of varietal difference in single-leaf photosynthesis viewed from nitrogen content and nitrogen-photosynthesis relationship

Japanese Journal of Crop Science 59(2): 298-302

In field trials in 1981-83 with rice cultivars registered in different years, the reasons for the higher single-leaf photosynthesis (CER) in new cultivars than in old ones at the ripening stage were investigated in terms of N content and N-CER relationship in leaves. In new cultivars, the total N content of leaves was higher than than in old cultivars at the ripening stage. There was a fairly close positive correlation between total N content of leaves and CER.
