Differences in the nutritive value of silage among types of sorghum

Chemical composition and digestion trials with goats were used to compare whole-plant and stover silages made from 4 forage sorghum cultivars, 2 dual-purpose sorghum cultivars, 6 grain sorghum cultivars, a sorghum X Sudan grass hybrid and 2 maize hybrids. Neutral and acid detergent fibre contents of whole-plant silages decreased in the order forage sorghum, dual-purpose sorghums and maize.
