Differences of chloroplast ultrastructure and their relations to physiological functions in various types of sugarbeet cultivars

Differences of chloroplast ultrastructure and their relations to physiological functions in various types of sugarbeet cultivars

China Sugarbeet ( 4): 1-4

The ultrastructure of chloroplasts in cotyledons and the 1st pair of true leaves of sugarbeet Gongnong 3 (high yielding), 33-77C040 (high sugar content) and P514320 (tetraploid) was studied in relation to their functions. The high sugar content type had fewer grana and thylakoids in each chloroplast, but more thylakoids in each granum compared with the other 2 types.
