Different motives and their significance for performance of various middle distance runners

This study investigates whether different kinds of motives are of differing significance in determining the behaviour and performance of middle-distance runners. An attempt was made to investigate seven kinds of motives originating from the motivation model by Bischof (1985). Twelve female and 61 male runners (mean age 22 years) from various athletics clubs in Switzerland took part in the study.
