Differential colonization of resistant and susceptible host plants: Pemphigus and Populus

Differential colonization of resistant and susceptible host plants: Pemphigus and Populus

Ecology (Washington D C): 713: 1059-1067

In Utah, Pemphigus betae feeds on the roots of wild plants in the genera Rumex, Polygonum and Chenopodium in summer and migrates to Populus spp. in autumn. In order to estimate host quality, successful and aborted galls were censused on 34 trees for 7 consecutive years. Attractiveness of the trees was estimated by censusing autumn migrants for 3 years.
