Differential modulation of neutrophil function in the bovine mammary gland

Differential modulation of neutrophil function in the bovine mammary gland

Journal of Dairy Science 73(Supplement 1): 149

The pathophysiology of Staphylococcus aureus mastitis suggests that the host's phagocytic cells, primarily polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs), are a key component in the control of this disease. A number of compounds that possess the capability of inducing PMN infiltration and/or activation in the bovine mammary gland were examined. Compounds were infused into the mammary gland at various doses. Somatic cell counts (SCC) were then determined at various times post-infusion.
