Differential morphogenic response of excised embryos from different cultivars of Solanum melongena

Wet seeds of aubergine cultivars Black Beauty, Purple Round, Purple Long, Manjri Gota, Mukta Kesi, Pusa Kranthi and Purple Cluster were surface-sterilized with 0.1% mercuric chloride for 5 min and washed repeatedly in sterilized distilled water. Embryos were removed from seeds and inoculated on MS media supplemented with 1 mg IAA + 1 mg BA, 1 mg IAA + 2 mg BA or 1 mg IAA + 3 mg BA/litre, with or without the addition of 15% coconut milk.
