In field studies conducted in the UK from 1983 to 1985, the variable dry matter yield of 6 cultivars of ryegrass (RvP, Optima and S22 (Lolium multiflorum, Italian ryegrass), Melle, Cropper and S24 (Lolium perenne)) following treatment with the insecticides aldicarb and carbofuran was attributed to attack by Oscinella spp. being more severe on some cultivars than others, and/or the effects of damage caused by Oscinella spp. having a different impact between varieties.
