Differential susceptibility of Sagittaria pygmaea MIQ. tubers to bensulfuron

Differential susceptibility of Sagittaria pygmaea MIQ. tubers to bensulfuron

Proceedings of the 4th EWRS symposium on weed problems in Mediterranean climates Vol 2 Problems of weed control in fruit, horticultural crops and rice: 379-385

Tuber wt of S. pygmaea, a weed of rice, ranged from 10 to 200 mg. Differences in tuber size did not affect tuber sprouting, but resulted in differences in seedling vigour. Development of leaves and roots was faster and greater in seedlings grown from larger tubers than in those grown from small tubers. When bensulfuron was applied at 30-70 kg/ha, pre-em., reduction in the number of roots produced was greater in S. pygmaea grown from small tubers than those grown from large tubers.
