Differentiated count of Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus in yoghurt using the conductance method

Differentiated count of Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus in yoghurt using the conductance method

Industria del Latte 27(1): 35-54

Different media were examined in order to selectively count streptococci and lactobacilli in yoghurt using the conductance method. Standard M17 and MRS media were not adequate for selective cell counting of samples, whereas the same media without buffer and with the addition of dried milk had enhanced selectivity. Correlations between microbial counts and corresponding detection times were observed. The sensitivity of the modified media enabled the detection of 1 c.f.u./ml in the samples.
