ESR sensitivity comparison of sugar from various sources and cavity mode effect

Sugar is a suitable material for estimating high radiation doses, e.g. in emergency situations, by means of ESR spectra. Sugar samples produced in 26 countries were irradiated with 3 Gy from 60Co; intensities of ESR absorption were measured before irradiation (the 'background' value), immediately afterwards and one week later. Results are tabulated as relative sensitivities, viz. increase in absorption intensity (from the 'background' value) relative to that for Japanese granulated sugar.
