Economics of buffalo milk production on an organised dairy farm of Haryana

Milk production records of the buffalo herd at the Buffalo Research Centre at Haryana Agricultural University were analysed. The total number of buffaloes and number of milking buffaloes increased from 78 and 32 resp. in 1984-85 to 243 and 62 in 1989-90. Over this period, monthly milk yield averaged about 213, 198 and 195 kg in winter, summer and the rainy season resp. Variable costs ranged from 63 to 69% of the total cost among the 3 seasons.
