Effect of cowpea and maize + cowpea intercropping on N uptake by succeeding maize and wheat crops

The effects of preceding crops of maize, cowpeas and a maize/cowpea intercrop on N uptake by succeeding maize and wheat crops were studied in greenhouse and field experiments. The contribution of different N sources (soil, fertilizer and residual fertilizer) to the total N uptake by wheat and maize was evaluated using 15N and the contribution of the crop residues was computed by the difference.
