Effect of different chemicals on germination of sandal seeds (Santalum album Linn.)

Freshly collected seeds of sandal do not germinate for 2 months (because of dormancy) after sowing and then take about 30 days to germinate. Seeds were subjected to 11 treatments before making observations on germination over 90 days: (1) soaking in water (control), 1% ZnCl2, 0.5% NaOH, 100 p.p.m. IBA, 5% cytozyme, 0.5% thiourea, 100 p.p.m. IAA, 0.5% HCl or a methanolic extract of fresh sandal leaves for 4 h; (2) soaking in 1% H2O2 for 2 h; and (3) soaking in 10 p.p.m. kinetin for 3 h.
