Effect of ethanol extract of propolis (EEP) on anaerobic bacteria

Effect of ethanol extract of propolis (EEP) on anaerobic bacteria

Herba Polonica 32(1): 53-58

The minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of EEP to 112 strains of anaerobic bacteria were determined. EEP showed the greatest effectiveness against strains of Bacteroides and Peptostreptococcus; of 37 strains examined, 18 were inhibited at 0.01-0.50 mg/ml. EEP was slightly less effective against the Gram-positive rods of Propionibacterium, Arachinia and Eubacterium (MIC 0.50-1.00 mg/ml).
