Effect of exogenous thiamin on the activity of cell nuclear RNA polymerases and biomass yield of barley plants

Grains of Ida were soaked in various thiamin solutions (2-50 mg/litre). Nuclear RNA polymerase I and II activity in above-ground parts of 7-day-old seedlings and of plants at the tillering stage was enhanced by 11-378% in treated plants compared to an untreated control, while at later developmental stages it was suppressed by 6-45%. There was a direct relationship between activity of nuclear RNA polymerase and biomass yield at various developmental stages.
