Effect of feeding faba bean seed meal on growth rate, rumen and blood parameters of buffalo (Bos bubalus) calves

Effect of feeding faba bean seed meal on growth rate, rumen and blood parameters of buffalo (Bos bubalus) calves

FABIS Newsletter ( 26): 37-38

For 150 days, 16 Murrah buffalo calves were given diets containing groundnut oilmeal as the protein source replaced by 0, 20, 40 or 60% faba beans providing diets containing 0, 15, 30 and 45% faba beans. DM intake, liveweight gain and feed:gain ratio were not affected by diet. For diets containing faba beans intakes of vicine were 1.67, 3.78 and 5.44 g/day and intakes of convicine were 1.02, 2.16 and 3.17 g/day, but any antinutritional effects were not apparent.
