Paddy straw was treated with 4% urea and conventionally stacked for 60 days. Feeding trials were commenced on day 30 when CP content in the urea-treated straw (UTPS) had increased from 4.47 to 7.69%. Crossbred cows with av. milk production of 8-9 kg/day were given (i) control diet of untreated paddy straw ad lib. + 1 kg concentrate mix (for maintenance requirement) + 1 kg concentrate mix/2.5 kg milk production or (ii) experimental diet of UTPS ad lib. + 1 kg concentrate/2.5 kg milk production.
