Effect of fertilizer application on yield and quality of Basma tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.)

In field trials in 1986 without irrigation, tobacco Basma was given 30, 60 or 90 kg N, 30 or 60 kg P2O5 and 40 or 80 kg K2O/ha or no fertilizer. Yields ranged from 1.11 to 1.76 t/ha with the highest yield given by 60 kg N + 30 kg P2O5. P and K application had no effect on yields. As N rate increased, leaf sugar content decreased and N and nicotine contents increased.
