The objectives were to evaluate the effects of fish meal and fat in diets on the nitrogen content of milk. Eight lactating Holstein cows were given diets containing either 0 or 3.5% fish meal (F) and either 0 or 2.9% calcium salts of long-chain fatty acids (M; Megalac) in the total diet DM using two 4 x 4 Latin squares. Diets were 22:23:55 maize silage:lucerne hay:concentrate (DM basis). Diet treatments were A - 0% F, 0% M; B - 3.5% F, 0% M; C - 0% F, 2.9% M; and D - 3.5% F, 2.9% M.
