Effect of formaldehyde-treated protein in the seeds of protein-rich oil plants on fat hydrogenation in the rumen, and fat content and unsaturated fatty acids in fat in the milk of dairy cows

Effect of formaldehyde-treated protein in the seeds of protein-rich oil plants on fat hydrogenation in the rumen, and fat content and unsaturated fatty acids in fat in the milk of dairy cows

Acta Agraria et Silvestria Series Zootechnica 1988; 27: 187-200

Addition of formaldehyde at <=6 g/100 g protein to soyabean oilmeal, rapeseed oilmeal and mixtures of rapeseed oilmeal with sodium caseinate increased the resistance of their fat to rumen hydrogenation in vitro. Resistance was further increased by adding NaOH as well as formaldehyde.
