Effect of freshwater fish (Serrasalmus nattereri) protein concentrate on liver metabolism in pregnant rats

From mating at 3 to 4 months old, groups of 12 female Wistar rats were given a balanced diet with 18% protein supplied by casein or fish protein concentrate (FPC) made from piranha (Serrasalmus nattereri). Groups of non-pregnant rats were given the same diets. Some rats were killed immediately and the rest after 21 days. During pregnancy liver weight increased (P<0.05) without difference between rats given FPC and controls given casein.
