Effect of fungicides on akakabi-byo and trichothecene production in wheat and barley

Applications of Topsin-M twice at spike emergence and anthesis of wheat and barley to control scab disease caused by Fusarium spp., resulted in a decrease in both disease incidence and contamination by the trichothecene mycotoxins, deoxynivalenol and nivalenol. The level of deoxynivalenol in the grains was highly correlated with that of nivalenol, suggesting that the fungicide may equally inhibit infection by strains of F. graminearum producing either mycotoxin.
