Healthy rhizomes of ginger cultivars Rio-de-Janeiro and Maran, were irradiated with 60Co gamma rays at 4 doses (0.7, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 krad) before planting. Unirradiated rhizomes were planted as the control. Yields of both cultivars decreased as the irradiation dose increased. Yields of Rio-de-Janeiro ranged from 10583.0 kg/ha (control) to 6632.5 kg/ha (2.0 krad), and yields of Maran ranged from 11727.5 kg/ha (control) to 6100.0 kg/ha (2.0 krad).
