Effect of gamma-rays on in vitro culture of mungbean cotyledon

Multiple shoots were obtained from cotyledons of 7 mung bean cultivars cultured on B5 medium supplemented with 2, 4, 6 and 8 mg benzyladenine (BA)/litre; 4 mg BA/litre produced multiple (3-5) shoots in the most cultivars. Shoot multiplication after 18 d was highest with cotyledons from 3-d-old seedlings (89% of cotyledons cultured); 8-d-old seedlings gave only 13% shoot formation. Root induction was best on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 1 g KNO3 and 0.203 mg IBA/litre.
