Effect of gap filling materials on the yield and quality of ratoon crop in early varieties of sugarcane

Results of two years field study conducted at Karnal [India] indicated that gap filling in ratoon crops is must for obtaining good cane and sugar yield per hectare. Amongst the gap filling materials, stubbles were the best in variety CoJ 64, whereas in Co 7717 stubbles and settlings were better than control. However, in the poor ratooner Co 7314, settlings was found the best followed by fresh setts. Juice quality parameters were not influenced by the type of gap filling materials.
